Naturopathic Methods For Treating Cancer
- Anti-oxidant intake: Anti-oxidants are the agents which decrease the concentrations of free radicals in body. Use of plant based diet containing lipoic acid, vitamin C and E can also serve as good source of anti-oxidants.
- Reduction in the rate of inflammatory processes: Inflammation in tissues is known to increase the progression to cancerous cells. Reduction in internal inflammation of cells and tissues can serve as a good measure to treat prostate cancer.
- Detoxification: Removing toxins from the body can help in slowing the progression to cancer as toxic compounds serve as a good source of nutrition source for invasive cancers. Detoxification can be achieved by eating hygienic foods, maintaining regular bowel movements, and ensuring adequate tissue hydration etc.
- Environmental toxins
- Limit the intake of food sprayed or treated with pesticides
- Avoid smoking and alcohol intake
- Reduce red meat intake
- Cancer killing agents: Turmeric which contains curcumin, vitamin D, and modified citrus pectin are the natural agents which are effectively used for killing prostate cancers cells.
It is imperative to mention that not all the cases of prostate malignancy are ideal candidates for natural treatment. Speak to your primary care provider to discuss possible options and recommended solutions.
Seven Types Of Standard Treatment Are Used:
Watchful waiting or active surveillance
Watchful waiting and active surveillance are treatments used for older men who do not have signs or symptoms or have other medical conditions and for men whose prostate cancer is found during a screening test.
Active surveillance is closely following a patient’s condition without giving any treatment unless there are changes in test results. It is used to find early signs that the condition is getting worse. In active surveillance, patients are given certain exams and tests, including digital rectal exam, PSA test, transrectal ultrasound, and transrectal needle biopsy, to check if the cancer is growing. When the cancer begins to grow, treatment is given to cure the cancer.
Other terms that are used to describe not giving treatment to cure prostate cancer right after diagnosis are observation, watch and wait, and expectant management.
Is Complementary And Alternative Medicine Safe
The safety of complementary and alternative medicine cannot be generalized, since there are different approaches and places to find them. Regardless of a patients preferences, it is important that they seek out the opinion of specialized professionals about which alternative medicines are safe to take. One of the common mistakes identified by the National Cancer Institute is that since its natural, its safe. However, being natural does not necessarily mean it is safe, and the botanical and nutritional products available may negatively interact with other treatments.
Some CAM therapies have undergone careful evaluation and have found to be safe and effective. However there are others that have been found to be ineffective or possibly harmful, emphasized the center, which explained that there is currently less research on these therapies due to time and funding issues, difficulties in finding institutions and cancer researchers to work with on the studies, and regulatory issues. CAM therapies need to be evaluated with the same long and careful research process used to evaluate standard treatments. Standard cancer treatments have generally been studied for safety and effectiveness through an intense scientific process that includes clinical trials with large numbers of patients.

Grilled Or Fried Meats
The National Cancer Institute in the United States advises against eating meats cooked at high temperatures, typically by grilling or frying.
When a person cooks muscle meat, including beef, pork, and poultry, at high temperatures, the meat may form chemicals that cause changes in DNA, resulting in an increased risk of cancer.
Dietary Supplements For Prostate Cancer
Besides the diet changes, you also need to take a careful evaluation on whether you need to take dietary supplements in the long term or not. In this case, its still always reasonable to consult your doctor for side effects. Only the experts would know if your body requires an additional nutrient supplement, what type of supplement to be taken, and how long you will need to take it.

This supplement may not be one of the specific natural remedies for prostate cancer, but it has a beneficial effect in reducing urinary symptoms that can reduce risk to prostate cancer.
Selenium and Vitamin E
There have been several debates on how selenium and vitamin C helps reduce the risk of prostate cancer. There are studies in the past that reflected the useful effects of these two components. Unfortunately, on the recent studies conducted by Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial or SELECT, no evidence shows neither of the two lowers the risk of prostate cancer.

Types Of Prostate Cancer
There are several different types of prostate cancer. The most common types found in prostate cancer patients include:
- Acinar adenocarcinoma Cancerous cells or tumors that originate in the gland cells lining the prostate gland. This accounts for the vast majority of cases of prostate cancer.
- Ductal adenocarcinoma Begins in the cells that line the prostate glands ducts. This is a more aggressive and more invasive form of adenocarcinoma.
- Transitional cell cancer Also known as urothelial cancer, this starts in the cells that line the urethra. While it can begin in the prostate, it most commonly starts in the bladder and then spreads to the prostate.
- Squamous cell cancer Occurs when quickly developing and spreading cancer cells grow on the flat cells covering the prostate.
- Small cell prostate cancer A form of neuroendocrine cancer that is composed of small round cells.
How Effective Are The Natural Treatments
As discussed previously, the response to therapy and type of natural regimen varies according to the patient factors, overall health of patient and staging of cancer. It is imperative to mention that dosing and dosing combination also plays a vital role. For example, it is believed that toxic intake of vitamin E can lead to prostate cancer in the men. Similarly the use of soy which contains essential amounts of isoflavones is also effective in the management of prostate cancer but excessive soy can aggravate the risk of other complications.
Based on several studies following combinations and dosing frequencies are usually recommended for the management of prostate cancer.
Benign prostate cancer is usually less of a problem however, once the cancer cells begin to metastasize to other organs or parts of body via new vascular formation active interventions usually becomes inevitable. Various research studies indicates that progression of a benign prostate cancer can be prevented by dietary modification and active supplementation.

Certain Factors Affect Prognosis And Treatment Options
The prognosis and treatment options depend on the following:
- The stage of the cancer .
- The patients age.
- Whether the cancer has just been diagnosed or has recurred .
Treatment options also may depend on the following:
- Whether the patient has other health problems.
- The expected side effects of treatment.
- Past treatment for prostate cancer.

Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die of it.
What Do We Know About Saw Palmetto Berry For Prostate Problems
Several antioxidants and other nutrients have been identified as potentially helpful supplements for conditions of the prostate. Those conditions include benign prostatic hypertrophy , or enlarged prostate. Clinical trials are being conducted to find out more about the benefits of these “super nutrients.”
In the U.S., men have relied more on the herb saw palmetto than on other natural therapies for relief from enlarged prostate. Men participating in several studies had better results when taking saw palmetto as compared to taking placebo. Saw palmetto hasn’t been shown to prevent or treat prostate cancer.
The most common side effect of saw palmetto is mild digestive distress. Saw palmetto also seems to have some health benefits when used with African plum tree bark extract. But researchers caution that not all extracts are the same. Some preparations of these herbs can have different properties. Because herbs and dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA, there are no guarantees about the quality of natural products.

- Weak or interrupted flow of urine.
- Sudden urge to urinate.
- Frequent urination .
- Trouble starting the flow of urine.
- Trouble emptying the bladder completely.
- Pain or burning while urinating.
- Blood in the urine or semen.
- A pain in the back, hips, orpelvis that doesn’t go away.

Natural Cancer Treatments Revealed
Have you ever wondered how effective natural cancer treatments can be? Around 20 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was crazy for my family at the time because my mom was a gym teacher, swim instructor and was always considered to be healthy.
After her diagnosis, she took the advice of her oncologists at the Cleveland Clinic and underwent a mastectomy followed by many rounds of chemotherapy. I can still remember seeing my moms hair fall out and thinking she had aged 10 years in the few weeks following chemo.
Praise God, after all of her treatments, she was diagnosed as being cancer-free and healthy. But for the next several years, she was sicker than shed ever been in her life and struggled with constipation, candida, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Then, around nine years after her first diagnosis, a terrible thing happened: She was diagnosed with cancer again. At that point, I had experience working in the natural health field, so when I flew home, we prayed together and talked about the best healthcare strategy. She decided to pursue natural cancer treatments by focusing on diet and lifestyle changes.
I want to be clear: I am not claiming that what we did with my mother is a cancer cure. But I believe these natural therapies, either used by themselves or in conjunction with conventional medical treatments, may support the body in the healing process.
Causes And Risk Factors Of Prostate Cancer
According to the American Cancer Society, there will be:
- About 174,650 new cases of prostate cancer annually.
- About 31,620 deaths from prostate cancer annually.
The average prostate cancer patient is a man over the age of 65 years old.
To this day, doctors remain unsure as to why the cells in the prostate begin to mutate and then accumulate. However, we do know some risk factors that can increase the chances of developing prostate cancer. These prostate cancer risk factors include:
- Age Risk of prostate cancer increases with age. The average prostate cancer patient is a man over the age of 65 years old.
- Race As is the case in several forms of cancer, Black men face greater risk of prostate cancer. Compared to other prostate cancer patients, Black men are also more likely to have an aggressive form of cancer.
- Genetic History If men in your family had prostate cancer, or if women in your family have had breast cancer, your likelihood of developing it are significantly increased.
- Obesity Most every form of cancer has a link between unhealthy weight and cancer. In addition to an increased prostate cancer risk, obese patients diagnosed with prostate cancer typically will have a more aggressive version of the disease as well.
With these risk factors in mind, there is no easy or definite way to prevent prostate cancer. However, ensuring a healthy diet, maintaining an active lifestyle, and participating in early screening can help contribute to prostate cancer prevention.

Limitations Of The Review
Low levels of evidence in this review were mainly caused by the poor quality and small sample size of original included trials. The inconsistency of findings of herbal medicines effect on improving main symptoms of prostate cancer among these trials further reduced the internal validity of the evidence.
Although we searched both Chinese and English databases, all of the included trials were retrieved from Chinese literature, which may have introduced potential selection bias and limited the external generalization of the evidence.
Types of clinical stages of prostate cancer determine the details of treatment. In this review, almost half of the included trials did not report or classify clinical stages of the participants, which made the subgroup analysis regarding to the different clinical stages of the disease unavailable.
Cell Culture And Proliferation Assay
Human prostate cancer LNCaP, PC3 and LAPC3 cells were cultured and maintained at 37°C in a 5% CO2 atmosphere in RPMI-1640 medium supplemented with 5% fetal bovine serum, 100unitsml1 penicillin and 100gml1 streptomycin. Prostate cancer cells were seeded into 96-well plates to grow to 80% confluency prior to treatment.
The dry PHC powder was dissolved in serum-free RPMI 1640 by shaking for 2h at room temperature. After spinning , the supernatant was filtered , then diluted with SF-RPMI and added to the cell cultures. The cells were treated with PHC at final concentrations of 0 , 0.01, 0.1 and 1mgml1. Following 72h of incubation at 37°C in a 5% CO2 atmosphere, the cells were washed and subjected to the MTS -5–2–2H-tetrazolium) assay. The CellTiter 96 AQueous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay kit was used following the manufacturers instructions. The absorbance was detected at 490nm with a Microplate Reader . All analyses were performed in a quadruplicate set of wells and repeated on separate occasions. AR expression was examined by western blotting. The PHC-induced apoptosis was examined by identifying DNA fragmentation with fluorescent TUNEL assay and counter-staining with DAPI . All apoptotic cell nuclei had bright green appearance under a fluorescence microscope . The result was expressed as an apoptotic index defined as the mean of TUNEL-positive cells counted per × 400 field.
