What Are The Benefits Of Ginger For Men

How To Make Turmeric and Ginger Tea – For Prostate Cancer

Ginger benefits for men include the potential to inhibit prostate cancer cell growth and promote the death of prostate cancer cells. Ginger also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Ginger is a common spice valued both for its culinary contributions and for its medicinal value. The root or rhizome is the portion of the plant that provides ginger health benefits.

Among one of the more frequent uses of ginger is to manage nausea. Ginger has been shown to be helpful in managing indigestion and in inhibiting nausea associated with conditions ranging from motion sickness to chemotherapy for cancer, including prostate cancer.

Ginger contains a number of bioactive ingredients, including gingerols, shogaols, and others. Although the individual ingredients have been tested for anticancer abilities, researchers are recognizing that the synergistic effect is more potent than single agents alone.

Therefore, ginger extract was the focus of the 2012 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition. This report is believed to be the first to evaluate the ability of ginger extracts to fight prostate cancer. The study involved adding ginger extract to a variety of prostate cancer cells as well as administering the extract to mice with prostate cancer.

Green Tea Reduced Inflammation May Inhibit Prostate Cancer Tumor Growth Research Finds

Date:
American Association for Cancer Research
Summary:
Men with prostate cancer who consumed green tea prior to undergoing prostatectomy had reductions in markers of inflammation, according to new data

Men with prostate cancer who consumed green tea prior to undergoing prostatectomy had reductions in markers of inflammation, according to data presented at the 11th Annual AACR International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research, held in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 16-19, 2012.

âOur study showed that drinking six cups of green tea affected biomarkers in prostate tissue at the time of surgery,â said Susanne M. Henning, Ph.D., R.D., adjunct professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. âThis research offers new insights into the mechanisms by which green tea consumption may reduce the risk for prostate cancer by opposing processes such as inflammation, which are associated with prostate cancer growth.â

Prior epidemiological data have been inconclusive about the relationship between green tea and prostate cancer. However, one recent intervention study conducted in Italy revealed that men with a precursor to prostate cancer called prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia who consumed a green tea extract reduced their risk for progression to prostate cancer.

The researchers found no differences in markers of tumor cell proliferation between the two treatment groups.

Questions And Answers About Calcium

  • What is calcium?

Calcium is a mineral that is needed for basic blood vessel, muscle, and nerve functioning, for sending signals from cell to cell, and for releasing hormones. It is the most common mineral in the body. The body stores calcium mainly in bone tissue.

  • How is calcium given or taken?

The main sources of calcium are in foods and dietary supplements. About one-third of dietary calcium comes from milk and milk products like cheese and yogurt. Vegetable sources include Chinese cabbage, kale, and broccoli. Foods may have calcium added, such as fruit juices and drinks, tofu, and cereals.

Most research about calcium and prostate cancer risk has studied calcium in the diet and not calcium in supplements.

  • Have any laboratory or animal studies been done using calcium?

See the Laboratory/Animal/Preclinical Studies section of the health professional version of Prostate Cancer, Nutrition, and Dietary Supplements for information on laboratory and animal studies done using calcium.

  • A 2005 review found a possible link between an increased risk of prostate cancer and a diet high in dairy products and calcium.
  • A review of studies published between 1996 and 2006 found that milk and dairy products in the diet increased the risk of prostate cancer.
  • A 2008 review of 45 studies found no link between dairy products and the risk of prostate cancer.

    Treatment Of Prostate Cancer

    Ginger kills cancer

While some research has shown that turmeric can minimize the spread and even kill malignant prostate cancer cells, the research has been inconclusive on whether turmeric should be used as a stand-alone product for those with low grade cancers.

If left untreated, prostate cancer can be deadly. Prostate cancer is also the second most lethal cancer in men. Prostate health is important for all men as 1 in 5 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

There is a growing body of research that supports evidence-based holistic measures such as turmeric supplementation for a wide variety of ailments, but medical professionals ardently encourage older men who experience symptoms of urgency, frequent urination, and weak or interrupted urine streams to contact their healthcare providers immediately.

A history and physical exam , imaging, a prostate-specific antigen test and a biopsy can be used to diagnose prostate cancer.

    Traditional prostate cancer therapies include:

    • Chemotherapy
    • Radiopharmaceutical therapy and bisphosphonate therapy for prostate cancer thats spread to the bone
    • Hormone therapy that removes or blocks hormones and stops cancer cell growth
    • Biologic therapy, which boosts, guides, or restores the bodys natural cancer-fighting defenses
    • Radical prostatectomy to remove the prostate
    • Lymphadenectomy to remove pelvic lymph nodes, and
    • Surgery to remove prostate tissue

    Why Ginger Can Treat Cancer

Ginger is such a promising treatment for cancer due the fact that it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and also appears to be able to prevent a cancerous tumor from growing or spreading. This is due to its ability to interrupt the reproductive cycle of cancer cells. It also appears to be able to induce cancer cell suicide, also called apotosis. What is most important, however, is that it seems to be able to do this without being toxic to other kinds of rapidly-reproducing cells such as though in the digestive tract. Chemo especially is very harmful to these kinds of cells, leading to problems with nausea, vomiting, mouth sores and other highly undesirable side effects. In addition to this, men taking ginger supplements can receive other health benefits as well, including improvement in blood pressure, arthritis and high cholesterol, just to name a few.

In conclusion, men who are worried about prostate health but are seeking a natural solution for it would do well to consider regular ginger supplementation. This, combined with avoidance of a diet high in sugar and processed foods, can make an enormous difference in prostate health, particularly as a man ages.

    Nettle Tea For Prostate

Nettle is the common name given to all plants of the urtica genus. This medicinal plant is very popular due to its diuretic property, since its content in chlorophyll, potassium and organic acids allows to stimulate the production of urine and thus to get rid of the water that accumulates in the body, that is to say, it prevents the retention of liquids. In addition, nettle allows to eliminate accumulated toxins in the blood by improving circulation and diminishing altered levels of sugar, cholesterol and uric acid in fluid.

Nettle tea is definitely the best herbal tea for prostate health precisely because of its ability to stimulate the expulsion of urine, which is suitable for the treatment of prostatitis, as it helps to improve the difficulty to urinate. To take advantage the nettleâs properties for prostatitis, you can consume fresh nettle leaves by immersing them in some broth or soup, or you can also prepare a nettle tea for prostatitis. Moreover, studies have found that nettle root extract can also aid BPH as the steroidal component in stinging nettle root can suppress prostate-cell growth, thus preventing further complications such as the appearance of carcinoma.

A 1998 review in the Journal of the American Medical Association analyzed 18 saw palmetto studies involving 2,939 men. The average length of the studies was nine weeks. Among men who took the supplement, the authors found a decrease in urinary frequency and nighttime awakening to urinate, plus an improvement in urine flow. The results were similar to those for the prostate drug Proscar.

But results of a 2012 review using data from different medical sources were more mixed. In 32 studies involving 5,076 men using either saw palmetto or a placebo, some studies showed benefit, but not all. The average length of these studies was 29 weeks. The authors concluded that, in general, saw palmetto did not show a significant degree of benefit. Note, however, that one proprietary blend, called Permixon, has shown benefit in multiple European studies.

My opinion is that saw palmetto likely does have a mild beneficial effect. The biggest side effect can be a decrease in libido.

Now lets take look at other supplements touted for prostate health.

Stinging nettle has been shown to shrink prostate size in rats, and a 2005 placebo-controlled study of 620 men in Iran linked the herb to an improvement of urinary flow and less urine retention in the bladder. These results have not been replicated in other studies, however.

Pumpkin seed oil has shown benefit in rats, but no good studies have been done in humans.

An enlarged prostate can also be the cause of other problems. If the enlarged prostate is causing symptoms, the best treatment would be a natural remedy. In the meantime, there are treatments for a wide range of conditions that cause a man to experience pain. A common surgical procedure involves an electric loop, laser, or electro-stimulation. The procedure is a safe and effective option for treating enlarged or symptomatic BPH.

    Turmeric For Enlarged Prostate

The anti-inflammatory effects of Turmeric may help men with an enlarged prostate too.

Apart from the anti-inflammatory effects, the antioxidant properties of the spice are of interest here too. This is why you may notice a few Turmeric prostate supplements on the market.

There are several studies that have provided evidence on this subject. One study describes the relation between dihydrotestosterone and an enlarged prostate. The study claims that dihydrotestosterone is one of the main contributing factors. It is found in high levels among patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

In this study7, the effects of Turmeric were compared to finasteride. This is a medication often used in the treatment of an enlarged prostate. Study participants included a group of laboratory rats.

Male Wistar rats were used. They were divided into a total of four groups. Animal studies yield a need for further research. Still, the study provided evidence that turmeric root could be helpful. It offers natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Only one group received a daily dose of Curcumin. The purpose was to see the effects of Curcumin on the prostate gland. It was found that Curcumin has an inhibitory effect on the dihydrotestosterone that affects the prostate. Serum and prostate tissue were analyzed among all rats in the fourth week of the study.

The researchers analyzed several studies and clinical trials that were previously conducted.

    How Sugar Causes Cancer

    Pin on treatprostate

The body is not designed to eat sugar in the quantities we give it today. Just a hundred years ago, the average person ate 10 times less sugar than what we eat today. Several centuries back, even eating the fruit was considered a sweet and rare treat.

While honey was available in many countries, it was not added to every food like sugar is today. Since the body is not designed to handle large doses of sugar, it is harder to process. When we use sugar, it is processed with more reactive oxygen, creating free radicals.

Free radical damage can cause mitochondrial disruption, DNA damage, and impairment in cells and proteins. A large number of free radicals in the body are linked with the increased spread and development of cancer. Additional studies indicate that obesity also causes more free radical damage in the body, which means both eating sugar and gaining weight increases cancer risk.

    Inhibition Of Stat3 And Nf

Easy Turmeric Ginger Tea For Prostate Cancer

Both STAT3 and NF-B regulate the expression of various cell cycle and apoptosis genes . As shown in , treatment with 6-SHO reduced the levels of cyclin D1, survivin, and cMyc in both LNCaP and DU145 cells. 6-SHO also inhibited the expression of cyclin D1, survivin, and cMyc in both LNCaP and DU145 cells following treatment with IL-6 . Finally, 6-SHO also decreased TNF-induced cMyc expression in all three human prostate cancer cells . Thus, inhibition of STAT3 and NF-B activation by 6-SHO was also accompanied by downregulation of their target proteins cyclin D1, survivin, and cMyc.

Turmeric Could Help You Cope With Arthritis Pain

There are many different types of arthritis, and all of these diseases are known to cause painful symptoms in the patient.

The particular ways that Curcumin interacts with the human body also makes it an ideal candidate for helping to relieve the symptoms experienced by patients who had been diagnosed with arthritis.

Researchers at the Nirmala Medical Centre in India compared the effects of curcumin supplements to a popular pharmaceutical drug used to treat arthritis6. All patients in the study had been diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis. There were three groups of patients, divided as follow:

    • Group 1: 500mg of Curcumin per day
    • Group 2: 50mg of Diclofenac sodium per day
    • Group 3: 500mg of Curcumin + 50mg of Diclofenac sodium per day

To the surprise of the researchers, those patients who only took the supplement that contained Curcumin had the most significant reduction in their pain and inflammation symptoms.

This led to the conclusion that Curcumin may be a highly effective option for treating these conditions and the compound does not cause some of the serious side-effects that have been associated with pharmaceutical interventions like Diclofenac sodium.
