Its a scary statistic, but one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is a great time to give men and families the push they need to begin learning about prostate cancer.

Men, even in their mid-40s, should get a PSA screening test which is just a blood test.

The Prostate Cancer Support Association of New Mexico helps all interested individuals and their families who are involved in coping with this disease. They also offer publications other reading materials on a wide variety of prostate cancer subjects. There is also free one-on-one consultations for those diagnosed with prostate cancer and those dealing with the diagnosis.

    The Prostate Cancer Support Association of New Mexico has announced topics for its first six organization meetings of 2022.

    The free meetings, held virtually until further notice, begin at 12:30 p.m.on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

    Login information is available the Tuesday prior to each meeting on the support groups website.

              • The Prostate Cancer Support Association of New Mexico is a non-profit, volunteer group serving New Mexico. We were founded in 1991 with the objective of providing education for men and families on the detection and treatment of prostate cancer. Our organization provides one-on-one support to prostate cancer patients and their families. We also conduct educational outreach to bring information to the public about prostate cancer and its treatments. We offer one-on-one consultations, support group meetings twice a month, a speakers bureau, a “buddies list,” a quarterly newsletter, and a library with resources specific to prostate cancer. Our doors are open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and by appointment other times. Our services are free to all.

                Prostate Cancer Support Association Of New Mexico To Hold Its Annual Conference Virtually On November 6

                The Prostate Cancer Support Association of New Mexico will host its tenth annual conference highlighting recent and potentially game-changing approaches in the treatment of prostate cancer. The free virtual conference will be held on Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m. For more information and to register, visit www.pcsanm.org.

                This is PCSANMs 30th year of operation, and the 2021 conference will provide timely and diverse presentations, said Lou Reimer, PCSANM Board Member. Because this is a virtual event, anyone in the state seeking more information about prostate cancer treatment options can easily attend.

                Despite widespread screening and major treatment advances, when prostate cancer has spread throughout the body, it remains the second most common cause of cancer death for men in the Western world, Reimer added.

                To address the needs and concerns of anyone coping with prostate cancer or wanting to learn more, the conference will feature the following topics presented by leading experts:
