How Does Total Health Work

So, how does Total Health work? Formulated with powerful vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, Total Health works to lower DHT levels and reduce the size of the prostate gland.

Hormonal balance plays a vital role in mens health. When estrogen levels increase at the same time that testosterone levels decrease, estrogen dominance can occur. This causes testosterone to convert into dihydrotestosterone .

DHT is a highly active form of testosterone that irritates the prostate and can cause prostate enlargement and inflammation.

Therefore, by reducing DHT levels, Total Health for the Prostate helps to combat the root causes of prostate disease and inflammation, in order to restore your health.

The Prevalence Of Low Zinc Status In Men Over 50 And Its Endogenous And Exogenous Causes: A Need For Zinc Supplementation

In the light that more than half of men in their 60s suffer from BPH, which increases to 90% by 70â80 years of age, and the direct effects of zinc on normal or malignant prostate cells, the need of adequate zinc status in men for having a healthy prostate becomes evident. Prostate zinc levels are depending on circulating zinc concentrations that have to be considered , which puts a focus on maximizing cellular uptake of zinc in tissues and absorption of zinc in the intestines. It has been shown in several studies that older adults frequently have low zinc status . Although the daily requirement for zinc does not increase with age, lifestyle factors and a reduced capacity to absorb zinc, an increase in the likelihood of diseases that affect zinc utilization, and the use of drugs that may decrease the bioavailability of zinc may all contribute to putting older individuals at an increased risk for the development of a mild zinc deficiency .

Table 1. Summary of endogenous and exogenous factors that may contribute to low zinc status in older men.

The requirement for dietary zinc may be as much as 50% greater for individuals on a vegetarian diet whose major food staples are grains and legumes because high levels of phytate in these foods reduce zinc absorption .

Inflammation And Prostate Cancer

Several mechanisms that can prevent and repair oxidative damage have been identified. Antioxidant enzymes such as phospholipase A-2 remove altered fatty acids, ROS, and RNS, preventing mutations. This one example of the beneficial effects of dietary antioxidants provides evidence that the consumption of foods that promote the production of ROS and RNS should be limited or avoided.

Vance et al reported that dietary antioxidant intake was inversely associated with levels of thioredoxin 1 , an enzyme and subcellular indicator of redox status, in benign prostate tissue in men with incident prostate cancer. Trx 1 levels were positively associated with the Gleason score in these patients. Thus, antioxidant intake may affect the redox status within prostate tissue, which in turn may influence prostate cancer aggressiveness.

Dietary factors associated with increased oxidative stress are high consumption of refined carbohydrates, animal-based protein, and fat. Dietary factors associated with decreased oxidative stress include vitamins A, D, and E the minerals zinc and selenium phytochemicals and dietary fiber. However, studies of the effects of those factors on prostate cancer have yielded conflicting results.

And It All Begins With Hormones

Results of a Prostate Cancer/Vitamin D Trial: Effectiveness Safety Recommendations

No body part has as much and as many types of hormones as the prostate does.

And there is a very delicate dance between the different types of hormones.

Testosterone is the primary fuel of the prostate. Without it, the prostate would wither down and die.

But, just like sugar is a powerful fuel source, if we overeat sugar, we get fat.

In the same way, if the prostate takes in too much testosterone, it grows too big.

It becomes an enlarged prostate.

Fortunately, a healthy hormonal system has a way to handle spikes in testosterone.

Just like we pack away excess candy and hide it from the kids , the prostate does the same with testosterone.

Specific receptors inside the prostate wrap the testosterone neatly, use it as needed, and exhaust the excess.

Talk To Your Doctor Before Using Supplements

When it comes to supplements, know this: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration doesnt regulate supplements as they do for prescription medication.

So, if you take an over-the-counter supplement, youre not always entirely sure whats in it, warns Dr. Gill. It may have items listed on the back, but the potency or amount isnt regulated like they are with prescription medications.

That leaves an unknown as to what effect a supplement may have, says Dr. Gill. Despite labels reading similarly, these important details can vary from batch to batch within a manufacturer and definitely between one manufacturer and another.

Dr. Gill recommends talking with your doctor before starting a supplement.

Its very important to talk to your doctor before starting a supplement to make sure its safe, reiterates Dr. Gill. Its very rare that vitamins and supplements used at recommended doses can be dangerous, but using too much of certain compounds or getting too high of a dose can lead to serious medical problems. Its best to be careful.

What Is An Enlarged Prostate

An enlargedprostate glandis quite common among menin fact by the time a man is 60 years old there is a 50/50 chance he will develop an enlarged prostate. But what exactly is the prostate glandand why does it become enlarged?

An enlarged prostate is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia and it affects many men over the age of 50. As men age, testosterone levels drop, which leads to higher estrogen levels. Increased estrogen has been correlated with BPH. High levels of dihydrotestosterone have also been linked to BPH. The key here is to investigate the reason why your prostate is enlarged and pick the appropriate treatment, plus lifestyle changes, to reverse it once and for all. Remember, not all men are created equal.

There are strong links between other health conditions and development of BPH. Diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and other inflammatory conditions pose the greatest risk. Why? Well, there are a few reasons.

First, these conditions are all inflammatory and cause stress to the body. Second, improper blood sugar control leads to insulin resistance, and insulin resistance leads to obesity. Excess fat leads to the storage of estrogen and the resulting decline of testosterone. Finally, highly inflammatory fat diets have been linked to higher levels of prostate problems. These diets also lend themselves to insulin resistance, adding more stress to the system. See a pattern here? Its a vicious cycle.

Subgroup And Sensitivity Analyses

Choosing Supplements for Prostate Cancer Part: 1

Subgroup analyses were conducted for those studies that examine the association of dietary vitamin C intake with prostate cancer risk. When stratified by study design, the pooled RRs were statistically significant among cohort studies and case-control studies with no significant heterogeneity in each subgroup .2). A relative higher quality for the pooling analysis was achieved because the majority of subjects involving in our analysis were from cohort studies , which are more powerful for identifying the risk factors and are typically ranked higher in the hierarchy of evidence compared with case-control studies. Stratifying by geographic region, the pooled RRs of prostate cancer for the highest versus lowest categories of dietary vitamin C intake were 0.89 for studies conducted in the United States and 0.90 in Europe. No significant heterogeneity was observed among studies in region-stratified subgroups . With stratified analysis that was based on the range of exposure, the pooled RRs of prostate cancer were 0.89 in the subgroup with wide exposure range and 0.84 in subgroup with narrow exposure range . The main results of subgroup analyses are listed in Table Table3.3. Sensitivity analysis was conducted by omitting one study at a time and recalculating the pooled RR. Overall, the corresponding pooled RRs were not substantially altered, suggesting that the results of this meta-analysis were stable.

Can Vitamin C Help Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a widespread malignancy. The rates spike after the age of 50 and are the highest in men over 90.

To amplify the results of prostate cancer treatment, many are looking to use natural alternatives for prostate cancer. Can vitamin C be of use and mitigate the prostate cancer risk?

One meta-analysis indicates that consuming vitamin C from your diet might be inversely associated with the risk of prostate cancer.

Experts found a 9% reduction in risk of prostate cancer for each 150 mg/day increment. This suggests that vitamin C from food could prevent the onset of prostate carcinoma. But, more data is necessary to evaluate the role of this vitamin on cancer cells.

Another case report showed a beneficial impact of high doses of vitamin C for the treatment of prostate adenocarcinoma. Earlier reports of IV vitamin C stated that this vitamin improved the symptoms of cancer. And prolonged life in terminally ill patients.

Further data indicate that after 10 months of IVC therapy, the vascular tumor present on the left section of the prostate was no longer detectable with ultrasound. Although data on IVC treatment on total cancer is limited, this evidence might indicate that vitamin C has some anti-tumor activity.

According to 2018 reports, experts didnt find an association between vitamin C consumption and overall prostate cancer. Based on these findings, the vitamin doesnt seem to have the potential for prostate cancer prevention.
