A study in Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice reviewed 2,385 patients with symptoms of prostatitis or the urethral syndrome.All patients were treated with a strict diet, which eliminated caffeine, alcohol, and hot, spicy foods for 12 weeks. Overall, the results showed an 87% success rate in men and an 89% success rate in women after 12 weeks of dietary treatment only.
Further, spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol were again identified as symptom aggregators in a 2013 study. The study in the Journal of Urology found that about half of 95 CP/CPPS patients surveyed reported that certain foods and beverages aggravated their symptoms.These include spicy foods , coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages.
It was also determined that water, herbal teas, fiber, and stool softeners alleviate symptoms. Experts recommend drinking plenty of fluids and eating high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Avoiding or limiting your caffeine intake, including coffee, tea, energy drinks and fizzy drinks, is another thing that can make a big difference to your urinary health.
Caffeine has a diuretic effect which means it can increase the urge to go to the toilet. On top of this, drinking these beverages, especially late at night, can irritate the bladder and so will make it more likely that you’ll need to use the loo. As it is difficult for men with an enlarged prostate to empty their bladder completely anyway, consuming caffeinated drinks will only add to the problem.
There are now so many caffeine-free drinks available that it shouldn’t be too much of a challenge to swap your usual brew for something a little kinder to your bladder.

SEATTLE Move over, tomatoes! All vegetables especially broccoli, cabbage and their cruciferous cousins may substantially reduce the risk of prostate cancer, according researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Eating just three servings of vegetables a day can cut a mans risk of prostate cancer nearly in half. While carrots, beans, greens and cooked tomatoes all were found to decrease risk, the strongest effect was for cruciferous vegetables. These findings will appear in the Jan. 5 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
The bottom line is that if you eat a lot of vegetables, you can cut your risk of prostate cancer by about 45 percent, says Alan Kristal, Dr.P.H., co-investigator of the study. And, if some of those vegetables are from the cruciferous family, like broccoli and cabbage, you may reduce your risk even further.
Kristal and Jennifer Cohen, Ph.D., from the Centers Cancer Prevention Research Program, led the data analysis. Janet Stanford, Ph.D., head of the Centers Prostate Cancer Research Program, also participated. All are from the Centers Public Health Sciences Division.
Men who ate three or more servings of vegetables a day had a 48 percent lower risk of prostate cancer, compared to men who ate fewer than one serving a day . This association was independent of other dietary factors, such as fat intake, and for medical factors, such as history of prostate cancer in a father or brother.

What Could Cause High Psa Levels
Before we talk about how to lower PSA levels, it is important to know whats affecting the total PSA score. Other than cancer, ailments like an enlarged prostate and prostatitis can raise the PSA level.
Plus, the PSA raises with age, recent orgasm, and urinary tract infection. An injury to the groin either from an impact or fall can spike PSA levels for a short time. The high PSA could also be the result of parathyroid hormone and surgical procedures.
When there is trauma around the prostate gland, the PSA spikes on any PSA blood test. Since it takes 2 to 3 days for PSA to drop by 50%, patients should wait for 2 to 3 weeks to do another PSA screening. These are all factors that can skew a PSA test.
